Atypical fluency patterns are evident in 23% or more of communication. Moments of dysfluency are 60 seconds and longer in duration, accompanied by severe secondary behaviors. The affective and cognitive components with or without the behavioral abnormalities, precludes functional communication in most, if not all, speaking situations.
