How Do I Use the Green Screen Feature In Teletherapy?

How Do I Use the Green Screen Feature In Teletherapy? image
Description

Over 30 preloaded green screen backgrounds hand-picked by our therapists are available for use. Additionally, the green screen controls are highly configurable allowing this feature to work well even in poor lighting situations. Users being able to upload their own image broadens what therapists can do during teletherapy. The upload image feature allows users to pick an image from their own computer and save it to use anytime and share it between other users.

  • With the upload image feature a user is able to:

  • Upload their own copyright free image/Drop image in dropzone to upload

  • Save the image so they can use it anytime they’re logged in

  • Search through existing images

  • Filter through images by title

  • Use previously uploaded images by them or other users

  • Switch between search and upload tabs

  • Delete an uploaded image (though it will exist elsewhere on the platform)

Typically, one's home office doesn't have the same ideal lighting of a movie studio. However, our highly configurable green screen controls allow therapists to find the perfect settings for their set up. Say goodbye to pixelation around the edges, hair blending into the background and other issues commonly experienced on other platforms.

We even offer a free green screen playroom where therapists can test their set up.

How does it work?

Therapists will need a green background/screen or object for the feature to work. Therapist selects the virtual background button, selects a pre-loaded image, or adds an image to start.

The best image size is 640px by 480px Other sizes will work, they just won’t fill up the screen. Images must be a PNG or a JPG. PDFs won’t work. We recommend uploading a file size 2mb or under.

System & Computing Requirements

We recommend using a Mac or PC with the Google Chrome web browsers. While other browsers like Safari, FireFox, and MSEdge may work, the optimal experience for this feature is best used on Google Chrome from your computer.

How do I turn the Green Screen On/Off

If you’d like to toggle the green screen off or on click on the virtual background button. At the bottom of that window there will be a button to update the image or turn it off/on.

Is there a visual indicator for the patient that a green screen is in use?

Currently there is not a visual indicator. Ideally, the therapist would have an object to act as the green screen and the patient would be able to see it.

What's the best green background?

The best green screen background is what you make it! That’s what makes the green screen so fun. Whether you have a backdrop to a patient’s favorite western scene or using a small section of the green screen to take your patient on a fun treasure hunt to find all the secrets in the picture.

What are the room/environment/lighting/screen requirements?

With the sliders in the green screen preview section, a therapist can change their color settings to match even the poorest of lighting conditions.

Where can I find green screen images to use?

You can find royalty free images through Unsplash.com, Pexels.com, or searching through Google.

Where can I get inspiration?

There are resources online to help you generate ideas to use with your patients. We have found a lot of helpful Facebook Groups dedicated to it.

Where can I buy green screen "things"

All major shopping retailers (Amazon, WalMart, etc…) have green screen backdrops listed for sale. Be creative! You can use any “green” item for your background - a folder, post it note, a piece of paper! You can adjust the color sliders in the green screen preview settings in case you only have things that are red or blue!

How does a green screen work in groups?

The green screen will still function the same way with the therapist's background being the one that changes. All participants will be able to see what the therapist is doing.

Can I save/share green screen images with teammates?

Yes! We encourage you to make your saved/uploaded images public so that other therapists can use your awesome image! All your images that you have uploaded yourself will be saved to your account.

Are there evidence based practice green screen tips?

We haven't seen any research on the effectiveness of green screens in therapy, but we know from our clinical experience that when you make a therapy session fun and engaging -- or in some cases realistic -- you can help your patient make gains. If you know of any research, we'd love to see it!

What is recorded when I use the green screen? (If anything)

The green screen will not record anything.

What are the best practices? Crucial elements? (lighting, for example, halo effect, my hair looks
weird)

If you’re using a backdrop make sure you have plenty of space for both you and the backdrop. The feature can be used in low light conditions, but having a well lit room is best. Remember, anything green will get picked up by the green screen tool. So if you’re in a green outfit you might blend in with your background.

Can I use it with a phone?

Right now the green screen function works the best on a computer. The patient can be on any device.

Do the kids know what a green screen is? Do they need to know?

It is likely the kids won’t have the best understanding of a green screen. To them it’s going to look like magic!

What is the most reliable green or background?

Light green seems to be the best. With the sliders in the preview window you can adjust it for whatever shade of green or other color you might have!

We’re not going to have different backgrounds for different people, are we?

Only one background can be used at a time. Therapists can update what image they want to use at any time.

Will it time-out?

The therapist can control when to start or stop the green screen function.

Can we save background images per kid?

The background will save to your own account. We are thinking about how saving images to a specific client would be implemented. As of now, it will just be saved in your account.

Can the green screen play videos the way a virtual background does?

A video feature is not supported at this time.

Can we do the animated emoji?

You can use the animated emojis, but they won’t display over the green screen. They will still display across the entire screen as usual.
