Werewolf Willie Loves Valentine's Day Fill-In Story
Description
A funny illustrated fill-in story about Willie the Werewolf where kids are asked to fill in specific kinds of words (parts of speech, pieces of clothing, etc.). Includes the original story with 'w' word circling activity and activity sheet with fill-in valentine and synonym matching activities.
Strategies and techniques
Can be used to teach or review parts of speech, new vocabulary, and writing skills. or to talk about holidays.
- First, therapist can ask patient to say the different words needed to fill-in the story. Either the therapist or patient can write the words in after they have all been written down. This will result in a silly story that doesn't make sense, but still allows review of parts of speech.
It is okay to have patients fill-in the words as they read the story thus resulting in much less silly, but still fun story. - Second, (as an option) the original story can be shared and the differences in stories can be compared or used as a word find activity having patients look for words that start with 'w'.
- Finally, the activity sheet has two activities.
- A St. Valentine's Day card where patients can compose a message from Willie the Werewolf to his classmates. Have patients imagine what Willie might want to say to his classmates or introduce typical Valentine's Day messages. "Be my Valentine!" "I heart Valentine's Day!" etc.
- A synonym matching activity that can be used to introduce synonyms and possibly new vocabulary. Perhaps have patients make sentences with the words introduced.
